band of pirates near Kongmun by the Armed Launches "Wing Les" and "Don Joso" as reported in their letters of 26th and 27th June, respectively, came at a most opportune

moment, calming the local anti-foreign feeling and

impressing on would be pirates that there was still some

anti-pirate protection to be reckoned with.
